IPOZ Surveyor
The system can be mounted in either a backpack or in a two-person carrier for maximum flexibility. The backpack configuration is more portable but requires shorter intervals between position updates. This is due to its inability to perform true Zero velocity UPdaTes (ZUPT’s). These ZUPT’s are used to determine biases for the accelerometers and gyros and maintain system accuracy. The two-person carrier configuration enables the system to be placed on the ground during the ZUPT, which results in a more accurate determination of the previously mentioned biases. The ZUPT procedure is performed every minute during a mission to enable the system to compensate for the biases so that the error is kept to a minimum and does not grow over time. With good operating procedures, it is consistently possible to traverse for 4-6 hours using the two person carrier before closing the traverse on a known point and still have closures less than 1 meter.
