| This system is based on inertial navigation technology and, when combined with a series of above-ground-markers (AGM’s) and odometers on the pig is capable of producing sub-meter accuracy. IPOZ works with clients to provide a turn-key solution that meets their operational requirements. This level of service includes recommending specific procedures to ensure the accuracy goals are achieved.
The system consists of proprietary software that is capable of tracking the pig's motion via a set of accelerometers and gyroscopes, through a process called Inertial Mechanization, and then propagating the pig’s trajectory via a sophisticated Kalman filter. Odometer data from several sensors are compared for consistency and are then incorporated into the solution. The positions of the AGM’s are also incorporated into the trajectory and the data are re-processed in a Kalman smoother to increase accuracy. Results are presented to the client in a time-tagged data file and are also plotted on a base map or orthophoto for visualization. The AGM data are used to provide quality control metrics. The system may also be used for marine applications where AGM’s are not available with a corresponding decrease in accuracy. |
